ShowTheLove
For Nature Arts Competition
Every year on Valentine’s Day the AWCP takes part in the Climate Coalition’s #ShowTheLove campaign, to encourage people to show their love for the nature around them.
This year the AWCP are asking people to paint, draw or photograph what you love about nature in and around Gibraltar, be it animals, flowers, vistas or snails.
Entry categories: Ages 0-7, 8-16 and 17- 100+.🐾🌿🍃💐🌊🦈
Media: anything goes; photography, mixed media, sketches..whatever, as long as its nature and you love it! 💚
Get your nature artworks in to us before the 10th of February! 🐛🦋🦇🐒🐍🌻🌿
Send your entries to: info@awcp.gi or deliver to the AWCP in the Botanic Gardens between 9am & 4pm every day.

This Valentine's Day, the majority of schools in Gibraltar will be
taking part in Gibraltar's first ever - 'Green Day'.
The Gibraltar Botanic Gardens and the AWCP have invited
all schools to take part in this event to support JustOneTree (UK).
Last year, over 350 schools took part in a similar event in the UK,
over 43600 trees were planted all over the world from just this
one event.
This year we have chosen Madagascar as the area to plant.
Just One Tree is a fantastic initiative that works with partners in
selected countries who ensure the tree planting is specific to
the selected area.
In Madagascar, only 10% of the original forests still remains.
Over 75% of species are endemic to Madagascar and 90% of
these species rely on the forests to survive.
Endangered Ring-tailed lemurs can be seen at the AWCP and are
an important conservation species. The AWCP helps to raise
awareness of the important conservation work being carried out
in Madagascar. Conservation projects such as LemurLove, work
with local communities to help raise awareness of the need to
conserve these amazing animals.
If you're a school and you would like to sign up for the event,
please get in touch at info@awcp.gi or nlc@gibraltargardens.gi
If you are an individual, company or group and would like to
get involved, please contact us.
We will also be planting a tree in the Botanic Gardens Biodome Area and one tree in the Lemur Walk-though exhibit
to commemorate the event as a tribute to all the schools that took part.
Each school will have their logo included on the Just One Tree website!

World Wildlife Day Big Cats - Predators under threat
March 3rd 2018
The AWCP will be joining Gibraltar Museum and Gib-Bats this Saturday (3rd March) to celebrate World Wildlife Day at Casemates Square. The theme this year is Big Cats - Predators under threat. We will be raising awareness of the successful conservation efforts in Spain and Portugal to save the Iberian lynx from the brink of extinction.
Currently the second most endangered big cat species, it once roamed throughout the Iberian Peninsular, (also found in and around Gibraltar before 1900). Now after numbers dropped to less than a hundred at the end of last century, isolated groups are being revived by conservation groups throughout southern Spain and Portugal.
Join us to find out more about this beautiful cat, make a lynx mask and visit many other projects at the event, working for wildlife in Gibraltar.
